About Us

PYSA offers two 6-week soccer seasons each year: Spring and Fall.
Spring season is often scheduled for April-May (typically between Easter and Memorial Day). Fall season is often scheduled for September-October (typically between Labor Day and Halloween). 

PYSA does not offer any other soccer camps at this time; however, we are happy to share local community soccer events on our Facebook page. If you are running a soccer camp or program and would like us to share on our Facebook page, please send us an email pysaoffice@gmail.com

PYSA is divided into the following leagues based on grade level:

• PreK (player must be at least 3 years old prior to the start of the season)
• Kindergarten
• 1st-2nd grade
• 3rd-4th grade
• 5th-8th grade
• 9th-12th grade (oldest players must be enrolled in high school)

PYSA may adjust age groups as needed based on registration data to accommodate team sizes.

Playing up to an older league level is allowed but will be limited. All play-up requests will be reviewed and requires PYSA Board approval. Playing down in a younger league is not allowed, unless it is for special medical reasons and requires PYSA Board approval.

The number of teams per league and players on each team vary each season based on the number of players registered. Each league (aside from Coed 9-12 league) will have at minimum four teams. 

Our typical goal for each league each season:

PreK: 6-8 players for 3v3 games

Kindergarten: 6-8 players for 4v4 games

1st-2nd grade: 8-9 players for 5v5 games

3rd-4th grade: 10-11 players for 6v6 games

5th-8th grade: 13-14 players for 9v9 games

9th-12th grade: 16+ players for 11v11 games, typically one team

In Fall 2024: PreK (20 teams), Kindergarten (14 teams), Boys 1-2 (10 teams), Girls 1-2 (8 teams), Boys 3-4 (6 teams), Girls 3-4 (6 teams), Coed 5-8 (8 team), Coed 9-12 (1 team)

PreK, Kindergarten, and 9th-12th leagues are co-ed. When registration numbers allow, all other leagues are separated into girls and boys leagues.*

*Over the last few years, there have not been enough 5th-8th grade girls registered to create at least four teams, thus have a separate Girls 5th-8th league. More often than not, 5th-8th grade teams are co-ed. 

We do our best to accommodate teammate requests if indicated on the registration form; however, teammate requests are not guaranteed. 

Our Fall 2024 season brought in over 650 registered players, many of which included one or more player/coach preference requests. As a volunteer run organization, it is no longer feasible to accommodate the volume of requests we receive each season when creating teams, especially when there are other factors that take priority in the process. There are many, many pieces to the puzzle when creating teams and teammate requests are among the last to factor in.

Our player registration form does not have a specific space for coach preferences and no coach requests are guaranteed if added. Continual coach requests have caused many unbalanced teams and with the growth of PYSA over the last few years we have had to make some necessary adjustments.

Yes, player practice availability is among the top information used to create teams. Please select and note any related practice information on your player’s registration form that may help us place them on a team.

All teams and schedules are created after the registration period closes. Once registration closes, Commissioners+Board Members pull the registration data for each league, establish coaches, create teams, and create schedules all at once. There are many moving pieces happening all at once.

Our coaches are volunteers, so we prioritize their practice day/time availability. We use the following player information provided on the registration form to help create balanced teams and schedule:

               2. practice day/time availability
               3. number of soccer seasons played
               4. teammate preferences

Keep in mind the player’s teammate and coach preferences are most often the last factors to be considered. Preference requests are not guaranteed. 

This approach helps us accommodate and align multiple different schedules and has allowed as many players as possible to participate. The PYSA Board sees all the pieces of a very big puzzle each season. We understand it can be particularly frustrating when it appears we are not meeting expectations or fulfilling your player’s requests. We must take into account all information of each participating player while also aligning the season structure to support the PYSA mission and values.

You will be able to find your league, team and practice day/time on our new “Find Your Team” portal before your coach reaches out to your team. Player team information will be available on the portal as soon as teams are finalized, likely 2-3 weeks after registration closes.

Coaches will get their official roster (with parent contact information included) at the Coach Equipment Pick-up, as indicated on the season calendar. Coaches are responsible for emailing or texting to connect their team prior to the first practice.

PreK-8th Grade Leagues

Practices will be at Rivercrest Park in Perrysburg. Most teams will practice on the same field (or very close to) where they will play for their Saturday games. PYSA has a contract with the City of Perrysburg to use their fields on specific days and times. 

PreK league does not practice during the week, instead will practice 15-30 minutes prior to the start of their Saturday game on the same field they will play their game. Practice length is determined by coach.

Kindergarten-8th grade league teams are allowed to practice once per week for about an hour, Monday-Thursday options between the timeframe of 5pm-8pm (Spring season) and 5p-7pm (Fall season). Practice schedules are determined by (1) what was selected on your registration form, (2) coach availability and (3) field availability. No practices are held on Fridays so the fields can rest prior to Saturday game days. 

Coed 9-12th League

Practices will be at Perrysburg High School (PHS) in Perrysburg. Practices occur once per week for about an hour; however, this league’s coaches may choose to host an additional practice per week.

The coaches ultimately decide the practice day and time for this team. Over the last many years though, practice has been Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm. 

PYSA works with PHS to reserve this space each season. 

PreK-8th Grade Leagues 

Games will be played on Saturdays at Rivercrest Park in Perrysburg. There is no traveling or playing any teams outside PYSA.

Most teams will play their games on the same field (or very close to) where they practice. PYSA has a contract with the City of Perrysburg to use their fields on specific days and times. We try to keep most games to Saturday morning (9a-12p); however, with an increase in our participants over the last few years, the timeframe is more likely 8:45a-2p.

There are 6 games scheduled in the season. If any game is cancelled due to poor field conditions, then it will be moved to the following Saturday after the last game of the season as indicated on the Season Calendar. 

Coed 9-12th League 

This league typically consists of one team and plays other neighboring recreational teams: Anthony Wayne and Springfield. PYSA Commissioners coordinate with them to create the game schedule. Games are either at Perrysburg High School, Anthony Wayne, or Springfield.

To keep consistent with other PYSA leagues, there are 6 Saturday games scheduled in the season. We try to schedule early afternoon games (start time between 12p-2p); however, timing can vary depending on availability. 

Occasionally, we are able to schedule additional Sunday games that we consider to be a bonus. Sunday games are typically scheduled for mid-morning (start time  between 10a-11:30a). 

If you ordered a jersey during your registration, you will pick it up from your player’s coach at the first practice. If you need to order one after registering, please reach out to pysaequipment@gmail.com

You will need to provide the following items for your player(s):

• Soccer cleats (no toe cleat – which is found on baseball and football cleats)
• Shin guards
• Soccer socks to cover shin guards
• Water bottle or drink to stay hydrated at each practice and game
• Soccer ball (optional) 
  • Soccer ball size is based on the player’s league:
    size 3 ball (PreK-2nd grade),
    size 4 ball (3rd-4th),
    size 5 ball (5th-12th)

Note: Parents/players are responsible for getting players to and from practices and games. PYSA requires two-adults (Head Coach and Assistant Coach) at all practices and games for the safety of all participants.  

Yes. PreK-2nd grade leagues players receive medals. 3rd-12th grade leagues players receive gift certificates to a local shop for one item. Gift are given to coaches near the end of the season and coaches are then responsible to distribute to players. 

We love to partner with local Perrysburg shops for player gift certificates. The last couple years, we have partnered with Mr. Freeze Ice Cream Shop in the Spring season and So Many Somethings Desserterie in the Fall season.

A family registering with three or more players will receive half price registration for each player added after two. Discount automatically applied at registration checkout.

Volunteers to Head Coach receive half price on one registration. Those who choose to coach multiple teams will receive half price registration for each team they coach. Discount for coaching one team is automatically applied at registration checkout when selected on the form. 

Yes, donations to PYSA are welcome and accepted by the PYSA Board.

Please note that the PYSA Board is responsible for distributing and/or implementing any donations received throughout the association at their discretion as they oversee the association in its entirety.
