PYSA provides many learning and growing opportunities throughout a soccer season, including youth employment. Are you interested in being a soccer referee? Come work with us!

Referee Registration

Youth (ages 13 and older) are eligible to referee season games. No experience is required. Games are held on Saturdays at Rivercrest Park. Some Coed 9th-12th grade league games may be on Sundays at Perrysburg High School. Online and in-person trainings are held prior to first games of the season.

Referee Availability

Referees must complete and submit the Referee Availability Google form each week by Sunday at 11:55pm prior to the Saturday game days to guarantee game assignments. The Referee Coordinator will send a reminder email each Saturday with the link to submit for the following Saturday’s availability.

Referee Game Report

A Referee Game Report must be completed after every game and should have both coach signatures. Referees submit reports online (preferred) or using the attached PDF to print, complete and return to the Referee Coordinator.

Submitted reports confirm payments, so be sure to keep them updated throughout the season. Referees are paid at the end of the season. Please keep track of your scheduled games, leagues, game reports (if using paper copies) and earnings to confirm total payment with the Referee Coordinator.

Similarly, any concerns of a situation (may it be player, coach, referee, parent, etc) that happened during the game may be reported by using this form as well. These reports go directly to our Head Referee Coordinator.

Referee Training

All referees must complete the following trainings and assessment before the first game of each season.

These are requirements from SAY Soccer (our parent company) and PYSA for the safety of our players and referees.

1. PYSA In-Person Training and Equipment Pickup

An in-person training is always offered each season, most often the week prior to (or during) the first practice week of the season. Attendance is expected. This is also where referees will collect equipment (shirt, whistle and/or stopwatch) as requested from the Referee Registration forms. If you are unable to attend, please inform the Referee Coordinator. (Approx. 30 min)

2. PYSA Referee PowerPoint — required every season

Review the following PowerPoint information in preparation for the PYSA Referee Assessment. (Approx. 20 min)

Document: PYSA Referee Powerpoint (Spring 2025)

3. SAY Soccer Online Training — required every season

The intent of this training is to provide referees with basic information about the Laws of the Game. There are five sections with readings and quizzes that can be taken at your own pace. The quizzes are not recorded. Please complete this training in preparation for the PYSA Referee Assessment. (Approx. 60 min)
